What is BitTorrent (BTT)?

BitTorrent is the most powerful peer-to-peer network in the world. In 2018, the BitTorrent company was acquired by Justin Sun (Founder of the TRON project), who announced the creation of BitTorrent’s own cryptocurrency.

The main goal of the project is to use the blockchain technology to expand the functionality of the network and increase the efficiency of BitTorrent platform. From a global perspective, BitTorrent can provide humanity with unlimited access to a fully decentralized Internet.

BTT tokens are compatible with TRC-10 and fully comply with the technical standard supported by the TRON blockchain. Nowadays BTT is among TOP-100 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization.

BitTorrent achievements and future plans

The main news and updated regarding the BitTorrent project in 2019 were the followings:

• BTT token was launched.

• BitTorrent Speed was released.

• CoinPayments started supporting BitTorrent (BTT).

• The developers announced BTFS, which is a variant of the open-source InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) protocol.

• NordVPN started accepting BitTorrent (BTT) as a payment method for its award-winning security and privacy products. 

• CoinGate started supporting BitTorrent (BTT).

• A new version of BitTorrent for Mac was released.

According to the official roadmap of the project in 2020 we can expect that:

• BTT token integration will be completed.

• Bittorrent integration will be launched.

• The developers will continue upgrading BTFS network.

• The team will be building Speed for next-generation µTorrent Web and BitTorrent Web products.
